This month the French Cultural Centre (CCF) of Beirut is featuring a series of expositions, lectures and films centred around the idea of Utopias – imagined worlds or conditions in which everything is perfect. Bringing together artists Claude Closky, Joana Hadjthomas, Khalil Joreige, Bernard Khoury, Nicolas Moulin, Rabih Mroue and Nicolas Prache, the CCF has organised an exhibit of artwork, some pieces reflecting happy utopian worlds whereas others point to a more worried vision of the future. The expo is meant to help viewers see contemporary art as a free space in which we can test our ideas of philosophical, political and aesthetic utopias.
