As Time Out researched for our ‘Beirut through a Lens’ theme this year, we were delighted to come across the work of Rasha Shammas. For over a year, the photographer has tracked down tattooed members of the public for her series of black and white studio portraits. Coaxing people to pose nude isn’t easy in Lebanon, but so far Shammas has managed to shoot over 150 subjects. A selection of her work will now be exhibited at The Running Horse, coinciding with the release of her self-published coffee table book of the same title. Ranging from the raw to the comic, each of Shammas’ portraits reveal a stark, intimate insight into a more taboo side of the country’s post-war generation.
