Up-and-coming Saudi artist Hussein Al Mohasen is garnering a name for himself in the Middle East through his mixed-media paintings coupled with collage that portray textured recollections of the Maqam Al Iraqi, a traditional music genre where Arabic melodies are accompanied by poems sung in the Iraqi dialect. Colourful works are developed around blurred black-and-white portraits of the men and women who mastered this musical art form.
