Is this shape a dark cloud, a head full of anxiety or a nuclear mushroom? Is this character holding a blue bird on his shoulder? Or could it be an allegory of his soul? Syrian painter Nihad al Turk loves building his work upon a complex system of symbols and imagery, and his anthropomorphic representations speak more to the subconscious than to reason.
With no academic training but several years of experimentation and practice behind him, al Turk has established himself thanks to his truly compelling universe: an easily recognizable combination of raw compositions, the use of a cool palette of soft tones and an alternation of abstract color blocks and geometrical patterns.
Mon-Sat 10am-8pm. Until June 30.
