White and black geometric lines confront vivid, chaotic colour fields in Syrian artist Moutea Murad’s work, now on show at Ayyam Gallery. Multi-dimensional spaces emerge on the canvas, reminiscent of the perspectival Renaissance windows as much as early 20th-century abstract painting and traditions of geometric forms in Islamic art. The geometric patterns pull you further into the work as much as they disturb the viewer’s experience. Murad will be an artist to watch as he tightens his technique to increase his works’ presence.
