Friday
It’s Friday morning. Suleiman jumps onto his ‘Shankaboot’ and stops by Mana’eesh Oskar in Geitawi for the perfect zaatar shankoubeh. In the meantime, Ruwaida takes off to Luanatic in Monot (70 713435) for jewellery-shopping – plus a ‘Shankeblak Shankoobe’ T-shirt and ‘Shankaholic’ earrings! In the evening Ruwaida catches up with Chadi at Obros on Clemenceau Street (03 853888, 70 650410), sipping on ice-cold Almaza. Later Chadi jumps to the DJ booth to play his El Ward Gameel set. They make their way to the sidewalk of Dany’s, Hamra (01 740231, 03 904547), to ahlein all their Hamra homies. Suleiman is still up and sitting on the Corniche with a bunch of friends, munching on hot and tasty ‘3aranees Dora’.
Saturday
Saturday, Suleiman gets a delivery order from Souk El Tayeb (01 441664). The trio meets and heads to the Saifi souk to grab a rocca man’oushe from Furn El Sabaya, then wash it down with fresh orange juice from the adjacent booth. Later, Ruwaida heads to Varouj (03 882933) for a sufra armaniye and orders her favourite: soubereg. Chadi and Suleiman, however, opt for foul w hommos kaouk in Shiyeh for an ultra-Lebanese meal. Sunset? They rejoin Ruwaida, rent bikes in Ain Mreisseh, and cruise along the Corniche.
Sunday
Sunday, Suleiman has to pick something up from Tripoli! He and Ruwaida hit the flea market to buy beautiful antique furniture and vinyl records – dirt cheap! A crispy kaake from the middle of the souk makes an excellent lunch. On their way back, they pick up Chadi’s favourite dessert from El Hallab: znoud el sitt. Chadi goes for tranquility in the Jesuite public garden, Geitawi, reading a book from its public library. The night sees them hanging Shankaboot posters all over Beirut.
