While preparing for their show at Mojo this Friday, the unstoppable hip hop duo ASHEKMAN tell Time Out's Natasha Dirany about the release of their new album and video.

What can we expect from your new album, 'ASHEKMANphobia'?
From ASHEKMANphobia you can expect deep subjects, meaningful lyrics, head banging beats and, most of all, the evolution of ASHEKMAN since the first album.

You're releasing a new video too. Tell us about it.
It's for the song 'Ya Reit'. It's in a new format that's never been seen before in the region – a 2D black and white animation. We worked with talented illustrators and animators to create a very graphical animation, so you will be seeing the twin rappers in a completely new look!

What was the inspiration behind the song?
'Ya Reit' is a personal song. The chorus is inspired by our late aunt, who used to say: 'Ya reit ma bet3ammir beit'. It's inspired by true facts and events – the story of two go-getters motivated to make it in this 'Hard Knock Life'.

'ASHEKMANphobia' will be available from ASHEKMAN urban wear store in Hamra, and Virgin Megastore (all branches) from Saturday March 12. Or, pick up a signed copy at the launching event, Friday March 11, 8pm at Mojo Jazz Club.
