Named after the hushed tones of the prohibition-era drinking holes, which were affectionately referred to as ‘Speakeasies’, this Hamra bar has become one of the corner’s best spots for drinking, eating and, er, country music. Beirut’s The Speakeasy is perfectly above-board and since opening two months ago has garnered a healthy clique of regulars. Their country nights on Wednesdays are a great place to go and relax and enjoy some top-draw food; the ‘tri sliders’ are highly recommended (separate chicken, beef and fish mini burgers), as are the enormous club sandwiches.
Come the weekend the loft apartment styled décor welcomes in the crowds, and the bar becomes a veritable party from Thursday to Sunday morning. The Speakeasy’s management takes the music they play seriously – you’ll hear a good variety of styles throughout the week, from the aforementioned country nights to blues, breaks and old RnB.
Happy Hour 6-9pm; kitchen 6pm-1am.
