The Wolfman

Even a man who is pure of heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolfsbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright’… Yes, all you lovers of gothic romance and classic horror, ‘The Wolfman’ hits the big screen on February 18. In this case, the source material was the 1941 film of the same name, which starred Claude Rains and Bela Lugosi. But if the trailer for the 2010 version and the line-up of filming and acting talent is any guide, this looks to be the best fi lm of its kind since Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 visual feast, ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’. And like that film, ‘The Wolfman’ has Anthony Hopkins playing a pivotal role. He’s father to the tormented Lawrence Talbot, a role essayed by Benecio Del Toro. The Puerto Rican method actor is perhaps Hollywood’s most interesting leading man. Romantic interest is courtesy of Brit beauty and stellar acting talent, Emily Blunt. So while there looks to be plenty of chills and monster effects, there’s plenty of passion in the moonlight too. Move over, you vampires! Scott A. Young
