For those who don’t know, what is a viral? Viral filmmaking is the production of videos that are spread online through word of mouth: people telling their friends and forwarding links because of the catchy content of the media you’re trying to present. Why do you use this kind of format for distribution? Getting a million hits on YouTube is something rather easy these days but not for ‘proper’ media. Through internet we’re able to pinpoint our viewers more accurately because we want ‘digital residents’, more aware of the technology around us and have a bigger view of the world. How did you get started? We come from a marketing and filmmaking background, where there are too many restrictions, so we’re the living proof that when you bury your soul as an artist and strip down emotionally, then you reach people. Create to have fun, and not to reach a deadline or please a client. What’s the potential of this kind of medium in Lebanon? The potential is beyond huge, the Internet is getting faster and faster thanks to the country’s technological advancement, and the connectivity that the Lebanese people have with the rest of the world is higher than any other country. Lebanon is the doorway to the Middle East, regardless of what everybody says. What’s your latest achievement in this field? One of our early short films ‘Pull String Human’ just got selected for the Beirut Film Festival.
