Movie Review
From Time Out London
Just a heads-up, guys: Jessica Alba doesn’t return for this sequel to 2003’s ‘Honey’. Picking up where Alba left off is Katerina Graham as Maria, a street dancer fresh out of juvie, trying to stay out of trouble and keep her feet on the dancefloor. Putting a spanner in the works is her slimy ex Ricky (Casper Smart), who let her take the rap for a crime last time and is prepared to do so again. Luckily, there’s a rich, clean-cut college boy waiting in the wings with his own crew. They just need a choreographer to give them a bit of edge for the big competition – maybe someone who’s been dancing on the wrong side of the tracks?

In terms of plot, it’s a case of zero surprises in this standard-issue streetdance film cut from the same cloth as ‘Step Up’. The lead can dance and act, which isn’t always true, and the dialogue doesn’t make you wince at every turn. It’s fine for the genre, but one day it’d be great to see an urban dance flick with more ambition.
