Hearing the words ‘Lebanese’ and ‘makeup artist’ in the same sentence usually makes my stomach turn, but after hearing about Talal Morcos’s new Spring/Summer 2010 bronzing trend, I had to give it a try.
He first sat me down in his dimly-lit studio, explaining how important it is to work in low lighting in order to execute beautiful makeup. He began by blending creams and foundations to create different tones, as well as a white powder to highlight my eyes. After the thirty-minute runaround between bronzers and compacts, a brick-coloured eye shadow shaded the outer-crescent of my lids, leaving neutral beige for the middle. He complemented my droopy eye shape with a smokey brown liner on the top and bottom lids, and added a super thin line of black liquid liner. To finish off this golden gaze, a white pencil (which is my new favourite trick) is put on the inside to make my eyes pop.
I can’t say I was too thrilled about the lip liner action… probably because of the ghetto-pout effect it generally has. But aside from that, his technique for lipstick was impressive. After colouring my lips with a nude liner, he applied a light coloured lip cream in the middle to finish the look. I could have done without the coloured eyebrows and heavy face paint, but I have to hand it to him; the man can cosmetically sculpt your face.
