One percent of children are born with a malformation of the heart, which is roughly 500 cases in Lebanon alone. If not treated, this condition is a death sentence for an infant, but if detected early, there is a 95% survival rate. Heart Beat is an organisation made up of physicians and surgeons in Beirut, who were approached by The Chain of Hope, along with many kind volunteers to work, free of charge, in order to help these needy children. Funding for the costs of running such large scale operations is through donations and cultural activities such as concerts. With more assistance, hopefully more children will live with a strong beating heart.
