Since its humble beginnings in New York in the 70s hip hop has progressed into a global cultural phenomenon– a way for people on the periphery to express themselves. Translating Hip-Hop is a project questioning whether hip-hop is a language that can be understood globally. Lebanese MCs Malikah and Rayess Bek are involved in a workshop with other international musicologists, hip hop activists and translators who will work to translate texts into performances. The same process will also take place in three other global locations. These multilingual rap performances will be showcased in Berlin. As part of this project, EM Chill hosts a live performance combining Lebanese and international MCs.
