American jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut started his career in the Mount Cavalry Star Baptist Church at the age of six. Next came his jazz education at the renowned Berklee College of Music, Boston where he won a string of awards for his impressive compositions. His style within jazz and blues is not strict, as Chestnut refuses to be pinned down to one niche; he mixes it up between genres, though the black gospel sound is always prevalent.
Since his early career he’s been a sideman to a huge list of music legends from Dizzy Gillespie to Chick Corea, Isaac Hayes and Regina Carter, and had a string of impressive jazz releases.
Cyrus Chestnut will perform live at Mojo Jazz Club, Oct 2-Oct 4.
