Above & Beyond – the British trance DJ trio – have chosen Beirut to broadcast their 400th episode of the ‘Trance Around the World’ radio show. They celebrate their 400th broadcast by throwing one big trance marathon, on November 26 at Forum de Beyrouth. Time Out took a look at the guest DJs who’ll be joining Above & Beyond on the decks.
1. Gareth Emery
British producer and DJ Gareth Emery had an unusual start in trance music. Before he reached euphoria, Emery was a classically trained pianist, a jazz clicker and perhaps most surprisingly, a little punk rocker. How many trance DJs can claim to come from such a diverse musical background? The Emery sound is distinctive, fusing together trance and progressive with psych and tribal. This is Emery’s first appearance in Lebanon, no doubt to the delight of his multitude of Beiruti fans.
2. Kyau and Albert
The German DJ duo first started working together in 1996. After meeting and realising they were each other’s musical counterparts, or brothers in trance, they joined forces and studios giving birth to the ‘Euphonic’ music production company and their first single ‘Let Me In’ in 1996. Since that point they’ve received the nod of approval from Paul Van Dyke and Tiësto and had a string of releases that have set dance floors around the world on fire. This high energy duo do neo-trance and progressive like no one else.
3. Jaytech
From pianist to programming perfectionist, Jaytech does deep and sunny electronic dance music that crosses between genres. He started producing at the tender age of 14 and released his first single at 16. At 26 years old, he’s already had a string of releases, along with the first full-length artist album on Anjunadeep imprint. His monthly mix show ‘Jaytech Music’ is listened to by thousands around the world. Still at the beginning of his journey into electronic music, now is the time to catch this promising young producer.
4. Mat Zo
Zo is a British progressive trance DJ being tipped as one of the promising producers of the future. He began producing and DJing in London and then came to the attention of established DJs such as Andy Moor and Markus Schulz. In 2010 he jumped in DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll at number 66. His single ‘Superman’ – a fastpaced house trance anthem – was particularly well received and he has a debut album in the making. Keep your eye on Zo as he’s likely to become a household trance name.
