Bluestockings, post-feminists, desperate housewives... the Etel Adnan Award for Women Playwrights promises to disdain pigeonholing in favour of art, a homage to the famous Lebanese-American poet and essayist. Women writers living in the region can now aspire to get proper distinction and a chance to have their plays presented at the 2012 Women Playwrights International’s Conference (WPI) in Stockholm, Sweden.
The competition will be held annually until the WPI, and one submitted work will picked yearly by a jury of local and international scholars and professional playwrights. Pencils, typewriters or laptops, now is the time to get started – the deadline is in two months. The Etel Adnan Award for Women Playwrights at Al Madina Theatre, Hamra. Submission deadline Oct 15, 7pm.
