We predict the Phoenicia’s newly-renovated pool area to be the sexiest chill out lounge in the city this summer, and we’re not the only ones who want a piece of the action. The outdoor lounge is the first chapter in the refurbishment of the 50 year old hotel, working towards reinventing the glamour and heritage in the Phoenicia and reviving the spirit of the lively Beirut from the sixties. In that effort, Amethyste was introduced. If you see through the glittering surrounds, you’ll start to sense that the poolside venue is more than just another trendy summer hangout.
The hotel has mixed all the right elements to put you in just the right mood, from tasty summer cocktails and a great international fair, to a grand décor and lighting. As the name suggests, a royal purple reigns supreme in the colour scheme that adorns a soothing pearl white backdrop. And that’s forgetting the food, which is splendid. Most of it is made to share: barbecued meat skewers served over a clay box of charcoal, sushi, grilled fish platters, burger sliders, refreshing exotic salads and mouth-watering ice cream desserts.
The Amethyste Lounge is set to attract the town’s elite, and get the partygoers among them pumped for a real Lebanese night out. Once you’re finally planted on a cushy Inge Moore-designed couch, sipping on a fruity, fresh drink and feeling like an extra on Entourage, the hustle and bustle of the city will be far from your memory.
