Finally, it’s here and Time Out has tested one of the first iPads to reach these shores, a model with 3G access as well as wi-fi. Unlike a regular PC, you won’t switch it of - you’ll leave it in standby mode, like a mobile phone. And, like the iPhone, it’s instant-on so you can pick it up and use it immediately. It feels great in the hand: light and appealing to the touch. But the real stand-out feature is the speed: programs launch super-fast, web pages load in a jiffy and there’s no waiting for the touchscreen to respond. Of course, it all looks fantastic on the high-resolution screen, whether you’re watching the immaculate video playback of playing games. Magazines will work well here but books may not be quite such a triumph. Although it’s easy to adjust the screen brightness, it can’t compete with paper for being easy on the eye. it’s tricky to see the screen in bright light too, so you’d be wise to pack a paperback on that next beach holiday. Every other part of it works astronishingly well and it’s am irresistible package. Worth the wait?
