Hatha yoga

Don't know your pranas from your chakras? Chantale Raad and Natasha Dirany guide you through Beirut's hottest yoga classes to see which made our core more sore. Namaste!

The Hatha yoga

Best for: detoxing and flexibility
Sore spot after: legs – particularly upper thighs
Process: Starting off with meditation and prayer, we begin stretching and twisting our bodies into positions that promote flexibility. And with the proper breathing, you can immediately see yourself falling deeper into stretches you never thought you could do. There was a little bit of fast-paced asana routines that got our heart rates pumping. But other than that, the majority of this 90-minute class concentrated on holding the pose and feeling the burn, which unexpectedly left me drenched in sweat by the end.
Verdict: At first, having to hold an uncomfortable pose for a good thirty seconds made me want to scream. I have no intention in becoming a human pretzel! But the good thing about this class is that the instructor isn’t sitting on your back, forcing you to reach impossible points. But I was most surprised at how detoxifying these motionless poses were. There’s no doubt I lost a kilo in those 90 minutes from sweat alone.
