Diving in the dark

Diving in the dark

Spring is officially here and although the weather isn’t warm enough for tanning and beach parties, if you’re willing to brave the crispy chill of the April sea, you could be in for quite an exhilarating adventure. Who’s up for night diving?

A calming and eye-opening escape for some and an adrenaline pumping escapade for others, night diving can be breathtakingly beautiful, spookily dangerous and definitely never dull. As you slip beneath the surface of the sea at night, you descend into another world that’s almost completely unrecognisable without the sun’s light streaming through it. Because of this, night divers are required to carry multiple lanterns, without which they would be lost in the pitch-black abyss of the sea at night. But turn on those lights and you’ll find that just off the coast of Lebanon lie reefs full of large, otherwise elusive, fish like Marmour (a type of carp) that only come out in the quiet black of night.
